An Israeli beit midrash across Europe. Jewish texts, open questions, and a community to explore them with.
Betzavta is a Europe-wide beit midrash programme of YACHAD, Israeli Community Europe. Its goal is to strengthen Jewish identity and community involvement among Israeli-Jewish communities across Europe, through Jewish learning spaces that are accessible, non-institutional and intellectually deep.
The programme grew out of demand from many participants in our communities, who told us they want to go deeper into Jewish texts, especially in formats that invite dialogue, contemporary relevance and open interpretation.
Today, Betzavta runs seven study circles across Europe. Each circle meets once a month to talk about Jewish sources, from the Bible, through Jewish philosophers, to the work of poets.
Every session takes on a different theme: from strong women throughout Jewish history and tradition, through philosophical and existential questions about what it means to be human, to each of our own personal encounters with the text.
Each circle is a community space open to dialogue, to exploring culture, and to connecting with Jewish heritage.
The materials draw on classical Jewish sources alongside contemporary voices from Israel and the Diaspora.
All Betzavta circles operate under YACHAD and share common learning materials.
If you facilitate a Jewish study group in a European city, or would like to start one, we'd love you to join the Betzavta facilitators' network: ready-to-use learning materials, ongoing support, and colleagues across Europe.
